Health Categories
The Jona report assess your microbiome in five key health categories: gastrointestinal (GI) health, skin health, metabolic health, brain health, and physical performance. Assessing these categories gives us a holistic view of how your microbiome may be related to your health.
Each category will either be red, yellow, or green depending on how badly your microbiome needs attention in that area. Green health categories are good to go! In regards to these categories your microbiome seems to be healthy. The yellow and red reflect areas where your microbiome could use some improvement, red needing the most attention.
β
Health categories are evaluated by assessing your microbiome association to a variety of diseases and symptoms that fit into that condition. The GI health category has the added element of assessing your ability to properly digest and absorb key nutritional compounds such as lactose and soluble fiber.
What is an association?
Having an association to a condition or symptom is not a diagnosis. Just because you have an association does not mean you are experiencing or have that condition or symptom. Likewise, if your microbiome has no association to a symptom or condition that does not mean that your diagnosis or experience is incorrect.
So what does an association mean? Having an association means that your microbiome shares some characteristics with individuals that have that condition or symptom and have been studied in the literature. Individuals with particular conditions or symptoms often exhibit changes in their microbiome like increased or decreased levels of particular bacteria. If your microbiome shares these same changes, our AI may find that you have an association to that condition or symptom.
What does the research level mean?
All of the information in the Jona results is backed by peer reviewed and published literature on the microbiome. Within each association, you will find tag for research level. The research level can either be early, limited, or established. This tag reflects the quantity and quality of articles that are supporting that association. For example, established research on a low association can be interpreted as several high quality articles support your microbiome having a low association with a particular condition. Similarly, early research on a high association can be interpreted that a only a few not as established articles support that your microbiome could be highly associated with a symptom or condition.
How are the recommendations made?
Our proprietary Jona AI formulates recommendations based on our digital twin technology. When it comes to a particular association, our AI will simulate how taking a certain action will change a digital copy of your microbiome. The AI will then reassess your association. If the simulated action decreases your association to that concern, it will be recommended. More information on how to interpret the Jona recommendations are available here, in our article all about the action plan.
